Table rules

How the Premier League Table Is Ordered

Clubs are ranked by total points. When clubs have the same points total, the first separators are goal difference and then goals scored.

Premier League tiebreakers after goals scored

When the tied position must decide the title, European qualification or relegation, further criteria consider points won in matches between the tied clubs and then away goals in those head-to-head matches. If the relevant clubs still cannot be separated, the competition rules allow a play-off at a neutral venue.

Premier League Qualification and Relegation Places

Who wins the Premier League?

The club ranked first after all 38 matches is the champion.

Which teams qualify for Europe?

European places depend on league position, domestic cup winners and England's available UEFA places for that season. Because the number and destination of places can vary, do not treat a fixed colored band as final qualification until the relevant competitions are settled.

Which Premier League teams are relegated?

The clubs finishing 18th, 19th and 20th are relegated to the EFL Championship.

Premier League Table FAQ

What does a positive goal difference mean?

The club has scored more league goals than it has conceded. A negative figure means it has conceded more than it has scored.

Why have some teams played fewer matches?

Postponements, cup scheduling and other fixture changes can temporarily leave clubs with different numbers of matches played.

How often does this table update?

The timestamp above shows the latest successful data refresh. A completed match must be present in the source data before its result affects the table.
